In a shocking incident on Monday, a 22-year-old woman from Georgia was arrested and charged with attempted murder after going on a shooting spree along Interstate 10 in Florida. The suspect, identified as Taylon Nichelle Celestine, reportedly checked out of a Florida hotel and informed the staff that she was embarking on a God-directed shooting spree due to the solar eclipse.
According to the Florida Highway Patrol, the incident occurred approximately 115 miles from the Alabama border in the Florida Panhandle. Celestine entered the highway and began heading west. Within a short distance of just 5 miles, she fired multiple shots at a passing car, causing damage to the vehicle's glass and grazing the driver's arm.
Undeterred, the suspect then targeted a second vehicle and shot the driver in the neck. The injured driver was promptly taken to a nearby hospital for medical treatment.
Authorities acted swiftly to apprehend Celestine, who had driven approximately 16 miles before being stopped by troopers. Upon searching her vehicle, officers discovered an AR-15 rifle and a 9mm handgun. The suspect was immediately taken into custody and booked at the Holmes County jail.
Celestine now faces charges of attempted murder, aggravated battery with a deadly weapon, and improper discharge of a firearm.
The motive behind this horrifying shooting spree remains unclear at this time. Law enforcement officials are working diligently to investigate the incident and understand what may have led to such violent behavior.
The incident serves as a stark reminder of the unpredictability and danger that can arise in even the most unexpected situations. The Florida Department of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles has urged all motorists to remain vigilant and report any suspicious or concerning activities on the road.
As the investigation unfolds, authorities are urging anyone who may have witnessed or have information related to the shooting spree to come forward and assist with the case.
The injured drivers, though fortunate to have survived the ordeal, will continue to receive support and medical attention as they recover from their injuries.
