### Gazan Doctor Succumbs to Wounds After Israeli Strike Claims Nine of His Children

A tragic event in the Gaza Strip has taken another toll as Dr. Hamdi al-Najjar, who lost nine of his children in an Israeli airstrike, has died from his injuries. The strike, which targeted their family home in Khan Yunis in May, left only his wife Alaa and their son Adam as survivors. Adam remains critically injured.

Both Hamdi and Alaa, who worked as doctors at Nasser Hospital, experienced one of the most devastating losses a family can endure. The attack happened shortly after Hamdi had returned home from dropping his wife at work. According to medical officials and the family, the severity of his injuries was overwhelming, causing his eventual death despite extensive medical efforts.

The Gisha Legal Center for Freedom of Movement had been advocating for urgent medical care abroad for Hamdi and Adam. Their conditions were dire; Hamdi had suffered from a punctured lung, multiple severe injuries, and required emergency surgery that removed part of his right lung. Adam's condition also remains critical, and efforts are ongoing to evacuate him for better medical care.

Colleagues at Al-Tahrir Hospital spoke highly of Alaa al-Najjar, who continued to work in the pediatric care unit while checking on her husband during this period of immense personal tragedy. Dr. Ahmad al-Farra mentioned that her dedication to her profession remained unwavering even in these trying times.

The Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) stated that the strike targeted suspects in a combat zone presumed to be cleared of civilians. However, humanitarian groups in Gaza have criticized these actions, noting that evacuation orders often lack timely updates, leaving residents in perilous situations.

A recent UN assessment highlighted the ongoing humanitarian challenges in Gaza, noting that over 80 percent of the enclave is under evacuation orders or direct Israeli control, drastically limiting the living space for its roughly two million residents.

The loss of Hamdi al-Najjar and the death of his nine children underscore the profound human cost amid the ongoing conflict, calling into question the measures in place to protect civilian lives in such volatile areas.
