In a 24-hour span, Fox News has seen two favorable developments in the legal arena. First, Hunter Biden dropped his lawsuit against the network, citing New York state's "revenge porn" statutes. Subsequently, a district judge dismissed a defamation case filed by former Biden administration official Nina Jankowicz.

On Sunday, shortly after President Biden announced his decision to withdraw from the 2024 re-election bid, Hunter Biden withdrew his lawsuit against Fox News. The lawsuit had been filed over the network's airing of explicit images of his private misconduct, which were obtained from his personal laptop. These images were part of a six-part series titled "A Trial of Hunter Biden" that was posted on Fox Nation, the network's streaming service, in 2022. The series focused on his foreign business dealings.

Fox News took down the series earlier this year after Hunter Biden threatened to sue. The network, however, defended its coverage, stating that it had accurately covered the newsworthy events surrounding Hunter Biden, who is a public figure and a convicted felon. Hunter Biden's attorney did not respond to requests for comment on the lawsuit's dismissal.

In a separate case, former Biden administration official Nina Jankowicz's defamation lawsuit against Fox News was dismissed by a federal judge on Monday. Jankowicz had claimed that the network had falsely portrayed her intentions and actions, including her alleged collaboration with major social media platforms to censor online speech. She also alleged that she had been fired from her role in the Disinformation Governance Board within the U.S. Department of Homeland Security, when in fact, she had voluntarily left.

The judge ruled that many of the statements made by Fox News were true, which is a key factor for defamation claims. He also rejected Jankowicz's argument that commentators referring to the disinformation board without explicitly naming her constituted defamation.

In response to these legal victories, a spokesperson for Fox News stated, "This was a politically motivated lawsuit aimed at silencing free speech, and we are pleased with the court's decision to protect the First Amendment." Jankowicz's attorneys have announced their plans to appeal the dismissal.

These legal victories come at a time when Fox News has faced previous legal challenges. Last year, the network paid $787.5 million to settle a defamation suit related to false claims about a voting machine company in the 2020 election. Fox News is currently facing a multi-billion dollar lawsuit from another voting tech company on similar grounds.

Although Fox News has encountered legal scrutiny in recent years, the dismissal of Hunter Biden's lawsuit and Jankowicz's defamation case provide a positive outcome for the network.
