In a shocking incident, four U.S. instructors from Cornell College in Iowa were injured in a stabbing at Beishan Park in the northeastern Chinese province of Jilin. The Chinese authorities have reported that the victims are currently receiving medical treatment for non-life-threatening wounds. A 55-year-old resident of Jilin, identified as Cui, has been arrested in connection to the stabbing.

According to a police statement, the suspect allegedly bumped into one of the Americans while walking in the park. This encounter quickly escalated as he proceeded to stab the instructor and three other U.S. instructors. A Chinese passerby who tried to intervene was also injured in the attack.

Beishan Park, known for its scenic attractions such as a temple, water features, and landscaped pathways, is a popular tourist destination in China. Violent attacks are rare in the country, making this incident all the more alarming.

The four instructors were visiting China as part of an academic partnership between Cornell College and Beihua University, which has been in place since 2018. The college officials are in contact with the U.S. Embassy in Beijing and the families of the victims, providing them with necessary support during this difficult time.

U.S. national security adviser, Jake Sullivan, expressed deep concern regarding the incident through social media. On the other hand, China's Foreign Ministry spokesperson, Lin Jian, stated during a press briefing that this attack seemed to be an isolated incident and assured that it would not impact the normal exchanges between the people of the United States and China.

Further investigations are underway to determine the motive behind the stabbing. The injured instructors and the Chinese passerby are expected to recover from their wounds.

As both nations work to ensure the safety and well-being of citizens, this incident serves as a reminder of the importance of maintaining security and fostering peaceful relations between countries.
