In an unexpected turn of events, Ohio State University has extended a scholarship offer to four-star offensive lineman Drew Evers from Flower Mound, Texas. During his first visit to meet with Ohio State coach Ryan Day, Evers was pleasantly surprised when Day informed him about the scholarship opportunity.
Evers expressed his excitement, describing the moment as surreal and expressing gratitude for the opportunity to be offered by such a prestigious program. He acknowledged that being offered by Ohio State and Ryan Day doesn't happen every day, making it an incredible moment for him and his family.
The scholarship offer came just a day before Evers participated in Ohio State's high school football camp, which further impressed him with the well-organized nature of the event. Evers spoke highly of Ohio State offensive line coach Justin Frye's attention to detail and coaching style, emphasizing how Frye focuses on the small things while providing both tough love and support.
Although Evers is primarily listed as an interior offensive lineman, he currently plays left tackle at Flower Mound High School. He believes in his versatility and ability to play any position along the offensive line. Standing at 6-foot-4 with an 81-inch wingspan, Evers compensates for his height by possessing excellent athleticism, as evidenced by his top speed of 20.3 miles per hour during testing at Ohio State.
Pass protection is considered one of Evers' strengths, as he hails from an offense that heavily relied on the passing game last season. However, he is actively working on improving his movement and blocking in open space to enhance his overall skills.
Amidst his college recruiting journey, Evers emphasizes the importance of building relationships with coaching staff. Having learned from his older brother's experience as a four-star quarterback prospect, Evers recognizes the business-like nature of college football but also aims to enjoy the process.
As Evers progresses through his recruitment process, he plans to narrow down his list of potential schools and make his college decision around the same time next year when official visits are in order. With scholarship offers from more than 30 schools, Evers has an abundance of options at his disposal.Prominent programs such as Alabama, LSU, Michigan, and Oregon have already offered him.
Despite the plethora of offers, Ohio State holds significant appeal for Evers. Following his visit and conversations with the coaching staff, his interest in Ohio State is exceptionally high. Evers commended the city of Columbus and the top-notch facilities while expressing eagerness to attend an Ohio State game, especially the much-anticipated rivalry matchup against Michigan.
The next year will be crucial for Evers as he narrows down his list and weighs his options. With Ohio State joining the race for his commitment, Evers will undoubtedly have a tough decision to make. Until then, he remains focused on building relationships and enjoying the recruiting process while keeping an eye on the success of Ohio State's football program.
