In a statement released on Sunday, the family of former Slack CEO Stewart Butterfield announced that their 16-year-old child, Mint, who had been reported missing a week ago, has been "safely recovered" in San Francisco. Mint was found on the streets of the city on Saturday evening.

The teenager had left their home in Marin County, leading authorities to consider them a runaway. The Marin County Sheriff's Office, which had been leading the efforts to locate Mint, confirmed that there was no reason to believe foul play was involved in their disappearance.

Expressing their gratitude, Mint's parents extended their thanks to the hardworking men and women of the San Francisco Police Department and the Marin County Sheriff's Office, as well as other law enforcement agencies involved in the recovery operation. The family also acknowledged the support they received from family, friends, volunteers, and even strangers who called in tips, making the recovery possible.

Mint was last seen in Bolinas, California, on April 21, before being located in San Francisco. To aid in the search, authorities had been working with Mint's mother, Caterina Fake, who is the co-founder of Flickr, to gather digital devices and other items for potential leads.

In their statement, the family highlighted the importance of law enforcement's understanding of the dangers posed by predators who exploit vulnerable teenagers using drugs as bait. They also expressed their awareness of the ongoing drug overdose problem in the city, with someone losing their life to an overdose every 4 1/2 minutes.

The recovery of Mint after a week of uncertainty brings relief to the family and the community. The circumstances surrounding their disappearance and subsequent return have not been disclosed. However, the focus now is on supporting Mint and ensuring their well-being following this ordeal.
