David McCormick, a former hedge fund executive, West Point graduate, Gulf War combat veteran, and Treasury Department official in the George W. Bush administration, launched his second Senate bid last year. He is currently running unopposed in the state's April 23 primary and is set to challenge Democratic Senator Bob Casey Jr. in the November election.

During the rally, Trump urged Pennsylvania voters to support David McCormick, highlighting Casey's perceived lack of achievements. Casey, the son of a popular former governor, has served as Pennsylvania's auditor general, treasurer, and senator since 2006. The Senate race in Pennsylvania is crucial, as it is one of the battleground states that will likely determine whether Republicans can regain the majority in the chamber.

With Democrats currently holding a 51-49 majority in the U.S. Senate, Republicans see a favorable Senate map this year, with Democrats defending 23 out of the 34 seats up for grabs. This endorsement comes after a tight primary race where McCormick narrowly lost the nomination to celebrity doctor and cardiac surgeon Mehmet Oz in 2022. Oz ultimately lost in the general election to Democrat John Fetterman. At the time, Trump expressed reservations about McCormick's adherence to the "Make America Great Again" movement, commonly known as MAGA.
