In a surprising turn of events, the New York City Police Department (NYPD) is preparing to revoke former President Donald Trump's license to carry a gun. According to a senior police official, Trump's New York concealed carry license was quietly suspended on April 1, 2023, following his indictment on criminal charges in New York.

It was revealed that two of the three pistols Trump was licensed to carry were turned over to the NYPD on March 31, 2023. The remaining gun listed on Trump's license was lawfully moved to Florida. However, with Trump's conviction on 34 felonies on May 30, 2024, his possession of the third gun in Florida might put him in violation of multiple state and federal laws.

CNN reached out to representatives of Trump to determine whether he still has a gun in Florida, as possession of a firearm by a convicted felon is a federal crime. The NYPD's Legal Bureau is currently conducting an investigation that will likely result in the revocation of his license, according to the senior police official.

Although Trump had held a license from the NYPD to carry a concealed firearm for more than a decade, the specifics of his application and license have remained confidential due to his request for confidentiality. As a result, they are exempt from public records requests under the NYPD's guidelines and New York state law.

The suspension and pending revocation of Trump's carry license suggest that he maintained his license throughout his presidency and even afterward until he was charged with multiple felonies for falsifying business records in March 2023.

As a former president, Trump is entitled to full-time protection from the US Secret Service. However, it remains to be seen how his revoked license will affect his personal security arrangements.

Trump has the option to seek a hearing challenging the revocation of his carry license. The process will be closely watched, as it will determine whether he can regain his license or will be prohibited from carrying firearms moving forward.

This development highlights the potential legal consequences that Trump could face with regard to his possession of firearms as a convicted felon. It serves as a reminder that even high-profile individuals are subject to stringent firearm regulations, emphasizing the importance of adhering to the law.
