In a shocking turn of events, former NFL player Buster Skrine is now on the run as Canadian authorities search for him following his alleged bail violation on bank fraud charges. Skrine, 34, had been granted bail on April 9 but failed to appear for a scheduled court date, prompting the police to issue a search warrant.
According to the Daily Hive, Skrine's bail conditions included wearing a GPS ankle monitor. However, authorities discovered that the monitor had been disconnected, raising suspicions of his intent to evade capture. As a result, Skrine now faces additional charges of failure to appear in court and failure to comply with a release order.
Canadian law enforcement officials allege that Skrine defrauded banks of over $100,000 by using fraudulent checks to open accounts and withdraw money before the checks cleared. Skrine apparently presented himself as a "former NFL player" during these transactions, further complicating the investigation.
Originally, Skrine had been facing 15 charges, which included four counts of fraud over $5,000, seven counts of making false statements to produce money, three counts of possession of property obtained by a crime over $5,000, and one count of possession of property obtained by a crime over $5,000.
Buster Skrine had an 11-season career in the NFL, playing for the Cleveland Browns, New York Jets, Chicago Bears, and Tennessee Titans. Having earned more than $40 million throughout his career, he last played in the NFL in 2021. However, his current legal troubles have cast a shadow over his professional achievements.
As the search for Buster Skrine intensifies, Canadian authorities are urging anyone with information regarding his whereabouts to come forward. With high-profile cases like these, the focus remains on ensuring justice is served and holding individuals accountable for their actions.
