### Former GOP Candidate Charged with Stealing Ballots During Voting Machine Test

CHICAGO (CBS) -- Larry Savage, a former Republican congressional candidate from Indiana, is facing legal charges for allegedly pilfering election ballots during a test of voting machines. Savage, who lost the Republican primary for the 5th Congressional District in May, has been charged with a felony for destroying or misplacing a ballot and a misdemeanor for theft, as per the Indiana State Police.

The incident took place on October 3rd during a public test of the ballot card voting system in Madison County, central Indiana. The test employed four voting machines and 132 ballots designated for testing. During the tabulation process, officials realized that two ballots were missing.

Surveillance footage from the event revealed Savage, who serves as a precinct committeeman, folding the two missing ballots and placing them in his pocket, despite being informed that they were valid test ballots. This led to further investigation.

Authorities secured a search warrant for Savage's residence, where they discovered the missing ballots inside his car. Following the issuance of an arrest warrant, Savage surrendered himself to the Madison County Jail and was subsequently released on a $500 cash bond, according to jail records.
