Fatal Shooting of Former "General Hospital" Actor Draws Attention to Rise in Catalytic Converter Thefts
The Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD) has released photos of three individuals believed to be involved in the fatal shooting of Johnny Wactor, a former actor on the popular soap opera "General Hospital." The incident occurred in May when Wactor was leaving work at a downtown rooftop bar.
According to CNN, Wactor, 37, was shot after he interrupted three men who were attempting to steal a catalytic converter. The suspects fled the scene in a vehicle following the shooting. LAPD described the individuals in the released photos as wearing hooded sweatshirts, with the shooter having a tattoo above his left eye and right cheek.
The tragic incident has brought attention to the growing problem of catalytic converter thefts in the area. During a news conference in June, Los Angeles City Councilman Kevin de León emphasized the seriousness of these crimes, stating, "Catalytic converter thefts are often seen as petty or victimless crime, not what happened to Johnny. This tragic incident underscores just how quickly such acts can escalate into deadly violence."
Wactor's friend and fellow actor Micah Parker echoed de León's sentiments, urging the LAPD to continue their efforts in apprehending the suspects. "You do not get to terrorize our streets, stealing and killing with impunity anymore," Parker stated, emphasizing the need for justice to be served.
Johnny Wactor portrayed the character of Brando Corbin on "General Hospital" from 2020 to 2022, as listed on IMDB. His acting credits also include appearances on shows such as "Criminal Minds" and "Siberia."
The LAPD is asking for the public's assistance in identifying the individuals in the released photos. Any information regarding the suspects or the incident should be reported to the authorities to ensure that justice is served in this tragic case.
