In a recent development, automaker Ford has issued a recall for more than 90,000 SUV and pickup truck models in the United States. The recall comes as a result of ongoing investigations into the troubled engines, particularly Ford's 2.7-liter and 3.0-liter EcoBoost V6 engines.
The main cause of concern revolves around a cracked or broken engine intake valve, which can lead to catastrophic engine damage. Ford has determined that these valves have a tendency to crack and break, resulting in a loss of power and an increased risk of a crash.
The impacted vehicles include popular models such as the Ford Bronco, Explorer, Edge, Lincoln Aviator, and Lincoln Nautilus. The recall notice, issued in collaboration with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), states that the engine intake valves may possess "grinding burn and over-specification hardness" at a specific location.
This recall has been a long time in the making, with Ford starting its investigations into the 2.7-liter and 3.0-liter engines in January 2022 after 22 failures were reported. The severity of the issue prompted the NHTSA's Office of Defects Investigation to launch a probe into the engines in October 2023, covering a staggering 708,837 vehicles.
Specifically, the recall encompasses 15,835 Ford Bronco models from the 2021-2022 model years, 47,719 Ford F-150s, 2021-2022 Edge models, 2021-2022 Explorers, and 2021-2022 Lincoln Nautilus and Lincoln Aviator models. These vehicles were manufactured within specific timeframes mentioned in the recall notice.
Owners of the affected vehicles will be notified of the recall starting from October 7, 2024. Authorized Ford dealerships will thoroughly inspect each vehicle to determine the number of engine cycles and replace engines on vehicles that fail high rpm cycle tests.
Ford, a company known for its efforts to improve quality and reduce recalls, now faces the challenge of rectifying these engine failures. It is essential for customers to respond promptly to the recall notification and take necessary action to ensure their safety on the road.
The automaker is determined to address this issue promptly and efficiently, striving to uphold its commitment towards customer satisfaction and safety.
