**Three Dead, One Injured in Fiery Tesla Cybertruck Crash in Bay Area**

In a tragic incident early Wednesday morning, a crash involving a Tesla Cybertruck resulted in the deaths of three individuals and left one seriously injured in California's Bay Area, according to police officials. The crash took place in Piedmont, an Oakland suburb, and was reported by Piedmont Police Chief Jeremy Bowers during a news conference.

When first responders arrived at the accident site, the vehicle was still ablaze. Officers initially attempted to extinguish the fire, but the intensity of the flames overwhelmed their efforts. The Piedmont Fire Department eventually managed to bring the fire under control. "Tragically, this collision resulted in three people losing their lives. One individual was seriously injured and taken to an area hospital," Chief Bowers added.

The notification of the crash came via an iPhone alert at 3:08 a.m., and a 911 call was made two minutes later, by which time officers had already reached the scene. Reflecting on the incident, Bowers said, "Our women and men who responded to this call did everything they could. And it's devastating. But the devastation pales in comparison to what these families are dealing with this morning, the day before Thanksgiving."

Out of respect for the families, the identities of the victims and the survivor have not been disclosed. According to NBC Bay Area, all four individuals in the vehicle were college students home for the holidays. Flowers have been laid at the scene of the accident.

A nearby motorist who witnessed the vehicle on fire managed to rescue the injured person. Aileen DeSoto, a family friend of the injured man, shared with NBC Bay Area that he had undergone surgery and was in recovery.

An investigation into the cause of the crash is currently underway, with the California Highway Patrol assisting in the efforts. Preliminary information suggests that speed was a contributing factor, although the crash site is not typically known for high-risk road collisions. Additionally, Fire Chief Dave Brannigan indicated that it was unlikely the Cybertruck's lithium battery had ignited, as firefighters were able to put out the blaze relatively quickly. The precise cause of the fire will be further examined.

Reflecting on the loss, Sandy Martin, who taught some of the victims in middle school, told NBC Bay Area, "This shouldn't happen to any kid. But when you know them, it just makes it worse."
