The FBI recently executed a search warrant on Tennessee Congressman Andy Ogles, as he faces ongoing scrutiny over fraudulent campaign financial reports. NewsChannel 5 has confirmed the search took place late last week, with Ogles admitting that his cell phone was seized by FBI agents.

In a statement posted on social media, Ogles acknowledged the mistakes made in his initial financial filings, stating that his campaign has been working diligently with attorneys and reporting experts to rectify the errors and ensure compliance moving forward. The congressman also mentioned that the FBI is investigating the well-known facts surrounding these filings.

Prior to the search, Ogles' attorney, G. Kline Preston IV, declined to comment on the matter. Meanwhile, a spokesperson for the FBI referred questions about the congressman to the U.S. Attorney's Office for the Middle District of Tennessee, stating that they had no comment according to department policy.

Law enforcement sources in Maury County, where Ogles resides, were reportedly unaware of any searches taking place. However, neighbors in the area affirmed that they had not observed any unusual activity around Ogles' home.

The execution of the search warrant coincided with Ogles' victory against Courtney Johnston in the Republican primary, as he seeks a second term in Congress. It's worth noting that Department of Justice guidelines generally prohibit law enforcement from taking overt actions in investigations of political candidates within 60 days before an election.

Earlier this year, Ogles filed amended campaign financial reports, admitting that he had not personally loaned his campaign the reported $320,000, as stated in 2022. Further amendments resulted in Ogles retracting claims of significant campaign contributions and expenditures previously reported to the Federal Election Commission.

NewsChannel 5 Investigates had initially raised questions about Ogles' financial resources to make such a loan, as his personal financial disclosures did not show substantial investments or a savings account. Subsequently, the Campaign Legal Center lodged a complaint with the Office of Congressional Ethics, drawing parallels between Ogles' conduct and that of disgraced former New York Congressman George Santos.

As the FBI investigation unfolds, Ogles has expressed his full cooperation, just as he had with the Federal Election Commission. He remains optimistic that any reporting discrepancies will be attributed to honest mistakes and nothing more.

The investigation into Congressman Andy Ogles' campaign finances raises important questions about transparency and accountability in politics, as voters prepare to make their decisions in the upcoming election.
