In a significant breakthrough, the FBI apprehended 18-year-old Brayden Grace, a most wanted suspect known by several aliases including "bitcoin," "Simswapping," and "user data god," in Columbus, Ohio. Grace is accused of being involved in a series of swatting calls across the United States, and now faces multiple charges including conspiracy, interstate stalking, and interstate threat involving fire or explosives.

The arrest of Grace comes after federal authorities identified him as part of a group called "Purgatory," which operated on Instagram and Telegram. The group utilized these platforms to plan and execute swatting calls between December and January. Following each incident, they would then publicly announce the swatting calls made.

According to court documents, one incident involving Grace occurred on January 5th when he called the Hollywood Casino in west Columbus. During the call, Grace allegedly threatened casino staff with a shooting and the burning down of the building, demanding $100,000 in cash and a helicopter.

Federal authorities have also linked Grace and others in the Purgatory group to several other swatting calls, as outlined in the federal indictment. The charges against him include conspiracy, cyberstalking, interstate threatening communication, and interstate threat involving fire or explosives. If convicted, Grace could face a maximum sentence of 10 years in prison for each charge related to the damage or destruction by means of fire and explosive, and 5 years for each count of conspiracy, cyberstalking, and interstate threat.

The arrest of Grace not only highlights the serious nature of swatting calls but also emphasizes the effectiveness of law enforcement in tackling cybercrime. Swatting calls have been a growing concern across the country, often resulting in unnecessary deployment of SWAT teams and endangering innocent lives. By apprehending a key suspect involved in multiple incidents, the FBI aims to send a strong message that those involved in such activities will be held accountable.

The FBI's diligent investigation, leading to the arrest of Brayden Grace, serves as a reminder of the dedication of law enforcement agencies towards safeguarding public safety and combating cybercrime. As the legal proceedings unfold, authorities hope that justice will be served, and the arrest will deter potential perpetrators from engaging in similar harmful activities in the future.
