In the early hours of Saturday, a motorcycle driver is suspected of fatally shooting another driver on the eastbound 10 Freeway in Covina, California. The incident occurred near the Via Verde exit at approximately 2:16 a.m., according to California Highway Patrol (CHP) Officer Sean Lough.
Upon their arrival, CHP officers discovered a person shot inside a white Chevy Camaro parked on the right shoulder of the freeway. Fortunately, a 19-year-old passenger who was also in the vehicle escaped the gunfire unharmed, confirmed CHP Sgt. Dan Keene.
According to Sgt. Keene, the victim managed to pull over after being targeted by multiple gunshots fired from the motorcycle. Despite the arrival of officers within seven minutes, efforts to revive the victim proved unsuccessful, and paramedics from the Los Angeles County Fire Department later declared him dead at the scene.
While the identity of the victim has not yet been released, CHP officials described him as a man in his early 20s. Initially reported as 19 years old, it remains unclear at this time.
Footage captured at the scene reveals a visible bullet hole in the windshield of the Camaro, further evidencing the violent nature of the incident.
To investigate the crime scene and gather evidence, authorities swiftly shut down all lanes of the eastbound 10 Freeway near the Via Verde St. exit for nearly four hours. Traffic was diverted off the freeway at Holt Ave., causing significant delays. Thankfully, the closure came to an end just before 8 a.m., allowing normal flow to resume.
Law enforcement is continuing its investigation into this tragic shooting on the 10 Freeway, urging anyone with information to come forward. The motive behind the attack remains unknown, leaving the community and authorities seeking answers in this senseless act of violence.
