In a recent interview with a youth culture media outlet, President Joe Biden made several claims that were found to be false or misleading. Here is a fact check of some of his controversial comments.

One of the claims addressed was Biden's statement regarding providing Israel with weapons. During the interview, Biden asserted that he had denied Israel offensive weapons and only provided them with defensive ones. However, this claim was proven to be false. At the CNN presidential debate, Biden had clearly stated, "We're providing Israel with all the weapons they need and when they need them." Additionally, while Biden had withheld a shipment of 2,000-pound bombs, his administration continues to supply Israel with other weapons, including 500-pound bombs.

Another false claim made by President Biden was regarding immigration. When asked about the number of people seeking to enter the country, Biden stated that the number was lower than at any time during the Trump presidency. However, this claim was debunked as well. In June 2024, there were 83,536 Border Patrol encounters with migrants on the southern border, which was higher than the numbers for June 2017, June 2018, June 2020, and the rest of that year. Though encounters fell in June, it was not the lowest number since Trump's tenure.

President Biden also made a claim that all of his programs have saved the government money. While it is true that certain prescription drug policies are projected to save $160 billion, numerous other Biden initiatives have cost the government money. The Committee for a Responsible Federal Budget has noted that Biden has signed laws and taken actions that have resulted in more spending than savings, including pandemic relief, infrastructure, and foreign aid packages.

Lastly, President Biden made deceptive claims about inflation. He suggested that he inherited 9% inflation from his predecessor, but the rate was actually 1.4% when he took office in January 2021. In June 2024, inflation stood at 3%, which indeed marked a decline, but the initial claim was misleading.

It is important to fact check and scrutinize the claims made by public figures, especially those in positions of power. The discrepancies found in President Biden's statements about immigration, inflation, and Israel highlight the need for accurate and transparent information.

As citizens, it is crucial to rely on verified facts and credible sources to form informed opinions and engage in meaningful discussions about the challenges our nation faces.
