In the face of Iran's recent attacks and growing nuclear capabilities, foreign policy and military experts are urging Israel to undertake a "disproportionate" military response. Concerns are mounting as Iran solidifies its relationship with Russia, potentially acquiring advanced military equipment that could challenge the ability of the United States, Israel, and Arab allies to counter Iranian threats.

The Washington Post reported that high-ranking Iranian officials recently visited Russia's advanced military systems, showcasing their interest in acquiring Russia's S-400 missile system. Experts suggest that if Iran obtains this system, which is claimed to be capable of shooting down stealth fighter jets, the options for dealing with Iran's nuclear program could be severely limited.

Iran's rapid production of enriched uranium, in violation of international law, has propelled it to possess enough nuclear material to build a weapon with a breakout time of just one week. Adding to the concern is Iran's secret underground nuclear facility, located in close proximity to the Natanz Fuel Enrichment Plant. The facility's depth makes it potentially impervious to conventional weapons.

Notable figures, such as former Trump national security adviser John Bolton and Mark Dubowitz, CEO of the Foundation for Defense of Democracies, argue that a "proportional" response will not suffice. Bolton suggests targeting Iran's air defenses, military headquarters, oil infrastructure, and most importantly, its nuclear weapons program. He condemns any suggestion that Israel should refrain from retaliation and refers to such a notion as an embarrassment to the United States.

Dubowitz emphasizes that a "disproportionate" response is vital to deter Iran from future attacks. He suggests that destroying weapons deployed against Israel, including UAV development and production facilities, cruise missile and drone storage, as well as hitting Iranian ports, oil and gas refineries, and other infrastructure would send a strong message.

Echoing these sentiments, former British Army Commander Colonel Richard Kemp emphasizes that in this region, only strength is understood. He advocates for Israel to deliver a severe retaliatory attack that goes beyond a mere tit-for-tat response. Kemp asserts that such action would deter Iran from repeating its aggression.

The call for a "disproportionate" response stems from the belief that Iran must face significant consequences for its actions. Experts caution that if Iran escapes this moment without paying a severe price, it may become emboldened to deploy its weapons again, potentially armed with nuclear or chemical payloads.

As time is running out to address Iran's nuclear aspirations, the international community closely watches Israel's response to the recent attacks. The potential acquisition of advanced Russian military systems by Iran further raises concerns about countering the growing threat. The consequences of a failure to act decisively could have grave implications for regional stability and security.
