Former President Donald Trump has taken to his social media platform, Truth Social, to once again demand that Judge Juan Merchan lift the gag order in his trial on charges of falsifying business documents. In a post written on his account, he expressed his frustration with being unable to comment on the "rigged" Biden trial due to the unprecedented and unconstitutional gag order imposed by the judge.
Trump, who is currently leading in the polls as the Republican nominee for the President of the United States, argues that the gag order infringes upon his constitutional right to free speech. He urges Judge Merchan to immediately lift the order, allowing him to freely express his views, feelings, and policies. Trump warns that if his request is denied, it would once again cast doubt on the fairness of the election.
Prosecutors, on the other hand, have accused Trump of violating the gag order a total of 14 times by publicly discussing witnesses, prosecutors, jurors, court staff, and their relatives. They have requested that the judge hold Trump in contempt, but Merchan has yet to rule on the matter.
Meanwhile, the trial has heard testimony from several witnesses, including Rhona Graff, Trump's former executive assistant. Graff shed light on how her former boss may have come to know adult film actor Stormy Daniels, who has been a central figure in the trial. The defense suggested that Trump may have been distracted while signing checks, questioning if he was multitasking or on the phone during the process.
Graff's cross-examination revealed that Trump seemed to have a casual relationship with Daniels, possibly considering her for a slot on the reality TV show, The Apprentice. The defense attempted to downplay Daniels' presence at Trump Tower, emphasizing Trump's interest in controversial individuals for the show.
As Graff left the courtroom, she passed Trump, who stood to greet her. The interaction between them was unclear, but it appeared that Trump thanked her in front of the jury.
The trial continues with the next witness, Gary Farro, an employee at Flagstar Bank, who discussed the establishment of business bank accounts by Michael Cohen, Trump's former lawyer. Testimony regarding bank records can often be dry, but Farro injected some humor into the proceedings by remarking on receiving Cohen's call while he was on the golf course.
As the courtroom emptied for the weekend, all eyes now turn to Judge Merchan's pending decision on lifting the gag order and the looming contempt charges against Trump. The trial's outcome will have significant implications for the ex-president and potentially impact the upcoming elections.
