French President Emmanuel Macron has urged Europe to adopt a stricter stance on Israel if the humanitarian situation in Gaza does not improve. During a diplomatic visit to Singapore, Macron stressed the urgency of addressing the crisis, emphasizing the unacceptable nature of the current situation.

Macron's comments come as warnings from humanitarian organizations intensify; they highlight that many Gazans are facing severe food shortages following an 11-week aid blockade. "It's very clear today that we cannot let this situation last," Macron stated, emphasizing the need for immediate action.

In a press conference preceding the Shangri-La Dialogue security conference, Macron reiterated the need for a rapid response. He warned that if humanitarian aid does not reach Gaza within a few hours, Europe's collective position on Israel must "harden."

The French president also highlighted the broader political implications, calling the recognition of a Palestinian state both a "moral duty" and a "political necessity."

Macron's criticisms of Israel's policies in Gaza have sparked a strong reaction from Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu, who accused him of siding with Hamas and perpetuating "blood libels."

Germany's Chancellor Friedrich Merz has also voiced strong condemnation of Israel's actions in Gaza earlier this week. Merz stated that the offensive could no longer be justified as a measure against Hamas terrorism.

The statements from Macron and Merz reflect growing frustration among European leaders over the situation in Gaza, as pressure mounts on Israel to address the humanitarian disaster unfolding in the region.
