**Elon Musk Criticizes Ben Stiller for Political Endorsements and Comments on "Woke" Culture**
Elon Musk recently drew controversy by calling out actor Ben Stiller on social media. The drama began after Stiller expressed doubts about whether his 2008 movie "Tropic Thunder" could be made in today's cultural climate. Musk, who owns the platform X (formerly known as Twitter), responded harshly to Stiller’s comments, showcasing a post by author John LeFevre. The post shared a screenshot of a Daily Mail headline that read, "Ben Stiller says woke America killed 'edgier' comedy." LeFevre noted that Stiller had endorsed Vice President Kamala Harris, leading Musk to comment, "Damn he went full retard," referencing a controversial line from "Tropic Thunder" alongside two laughing emojis.
The comments sparked a debate, mainly because Stiller never used the term "woke" in his recent remarks about the film. In a Collider interview published this week, Stiller was asked if "Tropic Thunder" could be made today. The movie is known for its controversial portrayal of a white actor, played by Robert Downey Jr., who dons blackface to embody an African American soldier. Stiller doubted it, stating, "Obviously, in this environment, edgier comedy is just harder to do."
Stiller elaborated that the film's jokes were aimed at highlighting the lengths actors go to win awards. However, he admitted that in today's social climate, he might not attempt such a film. "Now, in this environment, I don't even know if I would have ventured to do it, to tell you the truth. I'm being honest," he shared.
In the past, Stiller has been vocal about his political stance. In August, he threw his support behind Kamala Harris, citing a need for change. This endorsement became a focal point in Musk’s critique, given his close alliance with Donald Trump. Trump has reportedly also used the word "retarded" in demeaning references to Harris and President Joe Biden during the recent election campaign.
The exchange between Musk and Stiller reflects the growing tension and discourse around the boundaries of comedy and political endorsements in today's society.
