### Legal Experts Question Legality of Musk’s Million-Dollar Voter Giveaways

Elon Musk, the founder of Tesla and the world's richest man, has sparked controversy with his latest initiative in Pennsylvania. During a town hall event in Pittsburgh, Musk presented Kristine Fishell with a $1 million check, one of the two checks he handed out over the weekend at campaign events in Harrisburg and Pittsburgh.

The giveaways are part of Musk’s larger pledge to disperse $1 million each day to registered voters in battleground states. Participants must sign a petition supporting free speech and the right to own firearms, launched by Musk’s pro-Trump political action committee. So far, federal records indicate that Musk’s America PAC has spent about $80 million to support former President Trump’s return to the White House.

However, not everyone is pleased with Musk's high-profile generosity. Pennsylvania Governor Josh Shapiro expressed his concerns on NBC’s "Meet the Press," deeming the giveaways as "deeply concerning" and suggesting that law enforcement should investigate. Echoing these concerns, Michael Morse, a law professor at the University of Pennsylvania, described the legal standing of Musk’s actions as "very questionable."

On the other hand, Brad Smith, a former chair of the Federal Election Commission, offered a differing view. In a statement to the New York Times, Smith argued that Musk "comes out OK here" because he is compensating people for signing a petition, rather than for registering to vote.

With Musk’s decisive involvement in this campaign strategy, the debate over the legality and ethicality of his financial influence on voters is likely to continue, raising significant questions about the intersection of wealth, politics, and democracy.
