Elon Musk's resignation from his advisory role to U.S. President Donald Trump was marked by an unusual sight: a swollen black eye that drew attention during a White House press conference. The billionaire explained the injury by saying it was caused by his 5-year-old son, X, during a playful moment.
While Musk downplayed the incident, saying he invited his son to "go ahead, punch me in the face," President Trump interjected to vouch for the young boy's capability. "That was X that did that?... X could do it. If you knew X," Trump remarked.
Beyond the black eye, the focus was meant to be on Musk’s departure from his role in the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE). Trump praised Musk for his work in the department, saying he had done a "fantastic job" in cutting federal costs. Further gratitude was extended to Musk on Trump's Truth Social platform.
However, speculation in the media about Musk's appearance couldn't be ignored. The New York Times reported rumors of increased drug use by Musk during Trump's presidential campaign, noting substances like ketamine, Ecstasy, and psychedelic mushrooms. The Times also mentioned a daily medication box that allegedly contained around 20 pills, including ones marked as Adderall.
Despite these reports, it remains unclear if Musk's drug use continued after he took up his advisory role. What is evident, however, is that Musk exhibited erratic behavior, made insulting remarks to cabinet members, and gave garbled answers during a staged interview according to sources cited in the Times.
Musk's cost-cutting drive in the Trump administration was turbulent and, despite significant efforts, he did not achieve the dramatic savings he had hoped for. As he leaves Washington, D.C., Musk’s contributions and controversies continue to make headlines.
