In a recent turn of events, Tesla founder Elon Musk is facing widespread condemnation over an alleged custody dispute involving his children and the denial of their visit to their great-grandmother. The mother of Canadian artist Grimes, with whom Musk had a tumultuous relationship between 2018 and 2022, took to Twitter to plead with him to allow their three children to see their grandmother before her passing.
Sandy Garossino, Grimes' mother, posted on Saturday that her 93-year-old mother, the grandmother of Grimes (real name Claire Boucher), is currently in end-of-life palliative care and longs to see and hold her grandchildren one last time. This includes the youngest child, Techno Machinus, whom the grandmother has not yet had the chance to meet.
Garossino expressed her alarm that the children were being withheld from Grimes, accusing Musk of withholding their passport documents. She implored Elon Musk to honor their agreement, return the children, and provide the necessary documents for them to visit their great-grandmother before it's too late. Garossino's plea highlighted the urgency of the situation, emphasizing the emotional pain it is causing her mother and raising concerns for the well-being of the children.
Garossino's plea on social media has garnered widespread support, with fellow Twitter users expressing their sympathy during what they described as an unimaginably difficult time. Criticism was directed towards Musk, with one user condemning his "rage and narcissism."
Adding fuel to the fire, another one of Musk's children, Vivian Jenna Wilson, whom he had with Canadian author Justine Wilson, took to social media to pen a series of posts expressing her distress over the situation. She labeled the alleged denial of their mother as "potentially irreversibly damaging to a child's psyche" and deemed it a "despicable form of abuse." Wilson also highlighted Musk's lack of custody rights and accused him of using his vast financial resources to separate the children from their mother.
It was reported in October that Grimes has filed a lawsuit against Musk, seeking parental rights over their three children: X Æ A-Xii, Techno Machinus, and Exa Dark Sideræl. The tension between the former couple seems to be escalating, as Musk unfollowed Grimes on Twitter shortly after she expressed pride in Wilson, who recently came out as a transgender woman.
This comes in the wake of Musk's recent interview with controversial right-wing commentator Jordan Peterson, where he made remarks about Wilson's identity that raised eyebrows. Wilson, who had legally changed her name citing gender identity and the desire to distance herself from her biological father, refuted Musk's comments as "entirely fake."
As of now, Musk has not responded publicly to Garossino's plea or Wilson's social media posts. The custody dispute and the denial of the children's visit to their great-grandmother continue to draw attention and spark outrage.
It remains to be seen how this contentious situation will unfold and whether any resolution will be reached for the sake of the children and their family relationships.
