Musk clarified that he is contributing at a "much lower level," without disclosing specific details.
Musk addressed the media reports, stating, "What's been reported in the media is simply not true. I'm not donating $45 million a month to Trump." He emphasized that the purpose behind creating the America PAC was not hyper-partisanship, but rather to promote the principles that he believes make America great, such as meritocracy and freedom.
The Wall Street Journal had previously published an article stating that Musk was planning to donate approximately $45 million each month to America PAC. Initially, Musk responded to the report with a cryptic post on X, his social media platform, featuring an image of gnus with human legs and the caption, "FAKE GNUS." However, he later acknowledged a post claiming he was pledging $180 million, equivalent to $45 million per month from July until November, by simply replying, "Yeah."
In a subsequent X post, Musk acknowledged that he is making donations to America PAC but clarified that they are at a much lower level than reported. The Silicon Valley billionaire had previously expressed his support for Trump following an incident where the former president's life was endangered at a campaign rally on July 13.
The Journal's report shed light on the financial influence exerted by Silicon Valley's increasingly right-leaning factions in support of their preferred political candidates. Musk's alleged monthly contributions further emphasized the significant financial support from tech moguls towards the Trump campaign.
During a recent rally in Michigan, Trump himself acknowledged Musk's endorsement and boasted about the tech billionaire's donations. "Elon endorsed me the other day, and I read... he gives me $45 million a month," stated the former president, who also vowed to reciprocate Musk's support by "making life good" for individuals like him.
While Elon Musk dispelled the notion of donating $45 million per month to a pro-Trump PAC, he affirmed his commitment to promoting core American values through his contributions to America PAC, albeit at a lower level than previously reported. The impact of tech billionaires on political campaigns continues to be closely monitored as candidates seek financial backing from influential figures in Silicon Valley.
