Elon Musk, the CEO of Tesla and SpaceX, has faced intense criticism for deleting a post on social media platform X, formerly known as Twitter, in which he shared an interview by former Fox News host Tucker Carlson. The interview, conducted with podcaster Darryl Cooper, sparked outrage due to comments made regarding the Holocaust and World War II.

In the now-deleted post, Musk described the interview as "Very interesting. Worth watching." However, Cooper's remarks during the interview have been widely condemned for appearing sympathetic towards Adolf Hitler and downplaying the atrocities committed by the Nazis. The podcaster claimed that the millions of people who died during the Holocaust were unintended casualties, as Hitler was allegedly unprepared for war.

During the over two-hour conversation, Carlson and Cooper also delved into various topics such as the Israel-Palestine conflict, immigration in Europe, and the Civil Rights Movement. Cooper went on to controversially label Winston Churchill as the "chief villain" of World War II, attributing responsibility to him for the war's escalation beyond the invasion of Poland. However, he clarified that this belief did not make Hitler or Joseph Stalin heroes.

The interview has garnered significant attention, amassing 21.3 million views, 37,000 likes, and 10,000 reposts on X. Nevertheless, the conversation received substantial backlash from individuals across the political spectrum. Former congresswoman Liz Cheney was among those who denounced the interview as "pro-Nazi propaganda."

This incident comes shortly after Musk faced criticism for reposting a theory suggesting that only "alpha males" should be allowed to vote. The controversial view was labeled as "interesting" by Musk, but he has not removed the post from his website.

Tucker Carlson, who parted ways with Fox News, announced plans to relaunch his show on X in 2023. Since then, he has hosted notable figures such as former President Donald Trump, convicted criminal Larry Sinclair, and former 2024 presidential candidate RFK Jr. Musk himself has engaged in an X livestream conversation with Trump during the former president's campaign.

At present, Musk, Carlson, and Cooper have not issued any comments on the controversy. Newsweek has reached out to the individuals involved for further statements and clarification.

As the backlash continues to unfold, the incident highlights the challenges faced by high-profile figures like Musk as they navigate the complexities of social media and public opinion.
