In a recent turn of events, Elon Musk, the tech billionaire and owner of X, has addressed his now-deleted post on the platform, which made a reference to the alleged assassination attempt on former President Donald Trump. Musk clarified that his comment about "no one is even trying to assassinate" President Joe Biden or Vice President Kamala Harris was intended as a joke.

The FBI is currently investigating what they have labelled an "apparent assassination" attempt on former President Donald Trump. On Sunday, shots were fired near Trump while he was at his golf course in West Palm Beach, Florida. Fortunately, he remained unharmed, and the suspect was swiftly apprehended and charged with federal counts related to firearm possession.

Musk's comment on X came in response to a user's query about the motivations behind targeting Donald Trump. The post caused significant controversy, as Musk has been known to elevate debunked conspiracy theories on the platform and has shown support for Trump in the past.

Realizing the impact of his words, Musk took down the post and admitted, "Well, one lesson I've learned is that just because I say something to a group and they laugh doesn't mean it's going to be all that hilarious as a post on X." He also acknowledged in a subsequent post that the context and delivery of the joke were lost in plain text, leading to unintended consequences.

Despite inquiries, neither Musk nor representatives from X provided immediate comments or clarifications regarding the controversial post.

The White House spokesperson expressed their concerns about any jokes involving assassination attempts on political figures, deeming them "irresponsible." The statement emphasized President Biden and Vice President Harris' commitment to denounce political violence in all forms and called for unity to prevent the escalation of such incidents.

Both Vice President Harris and Minnesota Governor Tim Walz, Democratic presidential nominee and his running mate respectively, condemned what the FBI is categorizing as an "attempted assassination" on Trump. President Biden expressed relief regarding Trump's safety following the incident.

Musk also responded on X to a post by Donald Trump Jr. where the latter criticized media and leading Democrats for allegedly inciting hatred and violence against his father. In his response, Musk urged an end to such incitement while not explicitly supporting or condemning the former president.

This series of events raises questions about the responsibility that comes with a public platform and the potential consequences of sharing jokes or controversial statements. Musk's attempt to clarify the intention behind his deleted X post highlights the need for greater sensitivity and understanding when discussing sensitive topics online.
