Elon Musk has acknowledged that both unforced errors and mistakes from X played a role in the delay of his highly anticipated interview with former President Donald Trump. Initially, Musk had attributed the technical issues to a server attack, specifically a Distributed Denial of Service (DDoS) incident. However, in a subsequent statement, he conceded that internal missteps also contributed to the glitch.

Musk, owner of X, made these revelations in a post early Tuesday morning in response to user complaints about the interview's delayed start. He acknowledged that given the significance of the conversation, there was an expected 100% probability of DDoS attacks, which involve fake users flooding the server and blocking incoming traffic.

In addition to these external threats, Musk also acknowledged internal missteps by X's team. He commended their efforts in fending off the attacks and rectifying the mistakes made during the process. In conclusion, he expressed optimism, stating, "All's well that ends well."

The much-anticipated interview between Musk and Trump, initially scheduled for 8 p.m. Monday, encountered a 40-minute delay due to user access issues. In response to the technical difficulties, Musk had earlier announced that there seemed to be a massive DDoS attack targeting X's servers. He reassured users that the interview would proceed with limited access but assured them that the full recording would be made available online later.

This is not the first time X has experienced technical challenges during high-profile interviews. Notably, Florida Governor Ron DeSantis's 2024 primary campaign launch also encountered similar issues on the platform.

To ensure smooth proceedings for the Trump interview, Musk revealed that he had conducted a test with 8 million concurrent users prior to the event. However, upon commencement, an attack against X's servers occurred, saturating all data lines with hundreds of gigabits of data.

Despite these initial setbacks, the interview eventually ran smoothly, attracting more than a million viewers simultaneously. The discussion covered various topics, including foreign policy, securing the southern border, the assassination attempt on Trump, and energy-related matters.

Musk's admission of internal missteps and external attacks highlights the challenges faced by online platforms during high-profile events. Despite these hurdles, both Musk and X's team managed to overcome them, ensuring the successful completion of the much-anticipated interview.
