### Drone Attack in Binyamina Injures Over 60 People; Hezbollah Claims Responsibility
In a significant escalation of regional tensions, a drone attack in Binyamina, a town north of Tel Aviv, has left more than 60 people injured, several critically, according to first responders. The United Hatzalah rescue service reported providing assistance to over 60 wounded individuals, marking one of the bloodiest incidents since the conflict erupted last October.
The drone assault, reportedly launched by Hezbollah, targets a training camp of the Golani Brigade, an infantry unit of the Israel Defense Forces (IDF). The Lebanon-based militant group claimed the attack was retaliation for Israeli airstrikes in Lebanon on Thursday, which resulted in 22 deaths and 117 injuries, according to the Lebanese Ministry of Health. Hezbollah’s statement followed an audio message from their late leader Hassan Nasrallah, urging the defense of their nation and values.
While CNN cannot confirm if the drone struck the IDF training camp specifically, the IDF did confirm that a UAV launched from Lebanon struck near Binyamina. Earlier, the IDF stated they had intercepted another UAV from Lebanon without specifying the location. The incident raises questions about how the drone managed to penetrate so deeply into Israeli territory, given the usually high reliability of Israeli air defense systems.
This attack comes on the heels of a similar incident two days prior, where the IDF intercepted one of two drones launched from Lebanon. Although warning sirens were activated and a nursing home in Herzliya sustained damage, no casualties were reported in that attack.
In response to Sunday’s attack, United Hatzalah mobilized helicopters and ambulances to evacuate all injured individuals, whose conditions ranged from critical to mild. Various hospitals across Israel have been treating those affected. Hillel Yaffe Medical Center in north-central Israel has taken in 36 casualties with varying degrees of injuries described as resulting from a "UAV incident." Sheba Tel Hashomer Medical Center in Ramat Gan is treating three people, with two in critical condition. Additionally, Rambam Hospital in Haifa, Emek Medical Center in northern Israel, Beilinson Hospital, and Bnei Zion Medical Center in Haifa are treating several wounded individuals from the attack.
The attack in Binyamina comes almost two weeks after Israel initiated a ground operation in southern Lebanon. The IDF describes this operation as "localized" and "limited," despite significant activity suggesting preparation for a broader confrontation. Since the campaign against Hezbollah intensified on September 16, more than 1,500 people have been killed and over 8,000 injured in Lebanon, based on a CNN tally of statements from the Lebanese health ministry.
CNN has sought further details from the IDF regarding the incident.
