**Former Harris Communications Director Advocates for Biden's Resignation**

In a recent appearance on CNN's State of the Union, Jamal Simmons, former communications director for Vice President Kamala Harris, suggested President Joe Biden should step down in the upcoming month to allow Harris to assume the presidency. Simmons, who has an extensive background working for Democratic figures such as Bill Clinton and Al Gore, as well as a tenure at the Democratic National Committee, served as Harris' communications director from January 2022 until January 2023.

During the interview, Simmons praised Biden's presidency, describing him as "phenomenal." Yet, he argued that Biden could fulfill his role as a transitional leader by resigning, thereby giving Harris the presidency before she has to oversee the certification of the next presidential election. Historically, the Vice President's role includes certifying election results, as evidenced by Mike Pence's notable decision to certify the 2020 election results on January 6, 2021, despite former President Donald Trump's objections.

Simmons' suggestion comes in the wake of Harris' recent defeat in the presidential race against Trump. With all state races concluded, Trump secured both the popular vote and 312 Electoral College votes, compared to Harris' 226 votes. He emphasized that such a move by Biden would not only prevent Harris from facing the controversial January 6 transition but also inject a new dynamic of transparency and drama into the Democratic Party, which he believes the public desires.

Expanding on his comments after the show, Simmons posted on X, formerly Twitter, underscoring that Democrats need to adapt to a changing political landscape where excitement and drama are key. He argued that Biden’s resignation would put the spotlight back on the Democrats, "turn tables on Trump," and set a historical precedent by making Harris the first female president, thereby easing the path for future female candidates.

The idea has garnered some support on social media, with various users echoing Simmons’ call. Allison Gill, a former employee at the U.S. Department of Veterans and Trump critic, suggested on X that Biden's resignation would force Trump to discard his "47" merchandise, disrupting his branded narrative. Another social media account, Call to Activism run by Joe Gallina, also endorsed the idea, urging Biden to step down as a "protest" to make Harris the interim president.

However, not all voices agree with this approach. Symone D. Sanders Townsend, co-host of MSNBC's The Weekend, criticized the proposition as trivializing the responsibilities of the Oval Office. She emphasized that the presidency should not be treated as a casual game.

As discussions continue, the debate highlights differing perspectives within the Democratic Party on how best to navigate the current political environment and future electoral strategies.
