The Miami Dolphins returned to practice on Wednesday, preparing for their upcoming joint session with the Washington Commanders. Despite being a light practice, there were several notable developments and highlights throughout the day.

Notable absences from the practice included wide receivers Tyreek Hill and Jaylen Waddle, running backs Jeff Wilson Jr., Raheem Mostert, Salvon Ahmed, and Anthony Schwartz, tight ends Tanner Conner, Jody Fortson Jr., Jonnu Smith, offensive linemen Aaron Brewer and Terron Armstead, defensive linemen Benito Jones and Calais Campbell, linebackers Anthony Walker Jr., David Long Jr., Kendall Fuller, Jalen Ramsey, Ethan Bonner, safety Jevon Holland, as well as rookie Mohamed Kamara, who recently returned to practice after an undisclosed issue.

Despite these absences, there were some positive developments on the field. Rookie fifth-round pick Mohamed Kamara made his return to practice, while Jaelan Phillips, who came off PUP on Monday, received significant work during team periods. Julian Hill, a tight end, donned the orange jersey as the practice player for the day.

In addition to Kamara's return, Dominican rookie Bayron Matos fired up the crowd before practice, even leading a cheer from within the stands. The practice was light on front-end players due to the upcoming joint session with the Washington Commanders on Thursday.

Running plays were emphasized during this practice session, with rookie Jaylen Wright showcasing his quick cuts around the line, suggesting he could contribute early in the season. However, Wright did experience a fumble on a running play up the middle after being met by Nik Needham in the backfield, resulting in rookie free agent Jason Maitre recovering the loose ball.

Defensive players also had their moments on the field. Emmanuel Ogbah managed to beat a block from Kendall Lamm to meet De'Von Achane outside following a pitch play. First-round pick Chop Robinson demonstrated his ability to set the edge effectively. Cornerback Siran Neal appeared to be called for defensive pass interference on a deep throw down the left sideline from Tua Tagovailoa to Braylon Sanders.

Skylar Thompson's best throw of the day was a well-executed completion over the middle to Je'Quan Burton. Linebacker Curtis Bolton made an impact by darting into the backfield for a likely tackle for loss against Wright. Cornerback Cam Smith had his most impressive play of camp when he quickly closed the gap to cover De'Von Achane after receiving a check-down pass from Tua Tagovailoa.

New linebacker David Anenhi made his presence felt by batting down a Skylar Thompson pass at the line of scrimmage. The Dolphins concluded their practice inside for the second consecutive day, focusing on red zone drills. Robert Jones delivered an impressive block on an Achane run during this drill. Chop Robinson once again showcased his skills by avoiding a play fake and making a good play. Defensive tackle Brandon Pili displayed his agility by coming in untouched for what would have been a sack.

Offensive lineman Jack Driscoll made a notable contribution by executing a great clearing block on a Wright run. Rookie free agent Isaiah Johnson had back-to-back passes defensed against Mike White in the corner of the end zone, demonstrating excellent coverage skills against Kyric McGowan and Braylon Sanders. In an 11-on-11 drill inside, Zach Sieler showcased his ability to penetrate the line for a would-be sack of Tua Tagovailoa. Malik Washington was unable to secure a Tua pass thrown slightly behind him on a slant route.

Tua Tagovailoa displayed impressive movement in the pocket during a play that faced significant pressure, allowing him to complete a pass to De'Von Achane. Mike White's best pass of the day came when he threaded the needle between defenders down the middle, but unfortunately for him, Mike Harley Jr. dropped the pass.

As the practice concluded, plays were run at half-speed or in walk-through fashion. The large number of players missing from this practice has raised concerns, but it is expected that many of them will participate in the upcoming joint session with the Washington Commanders on Thursday.
