**Browns Announce Plan for New Domed Stadium in Brook Park, Mayor Expresses Disappointment**

The Browns have communicated to the city of Cleveland their decision to move forward with constructing a new domed stadium in the suburban area of Brook Park, as announced by Mayor Justin Bibb on Thursday. During a news conference held at Cleveland's city hall, Mayor Bibb conveyed his frustration with the Haslam Sports Group, the owners of the Browns, for opting to relocate from their current lakefront stadium.

"We must be practical about our many needs and resources," Bibb stated. "The city's approach has always been rooted in fiscal responsibility and the long-term value for all members of our community. I am deeply, deeply disappointed that our exhaustive efforts have led to the Haslam Sports Group choosing to pursue a move to Brook Park."

Earlier in August, Cleveland had put forth a $1.2 billion proposal to renovate the existing 65,000-seat stadium and redevelop the surrounding area. This offer included $461 million in funding from the city and an extension of the team's lease for 30 years, beyond the current lease expiration in 2028. Mayor Bibb had requested a response from the Browns by August 12.

In addition, Cuyahoga County officials expressed their support for the proposed renovations, affirming their commitment to retaining the NFL team in downtown Cleveland "for generations to come."

The Browns, who have been based on the shores of Lake Erie since their founding in 1946, moved to a new stadium in 1999 upon their return as an expansion franchise. Despite some upgrades, the stadium's location has continued to pose significant traffic and parking challenges.

Responding to the city's proposal, the Browns revealed plans for a $2.4 billion state-of-the-art stadium and entertainment complex approximately 15 miles south of Cleveland. The Haslam Sports Group is pursuing a 50-50 private/public partnership to fund the stadium's construction.

In a letter to fans in August, the team stated, "Similar to other markets in the Midwest, this proposed domed stadium would catalyze our region in a major way. The stadium's year-round activity would anchor a large-scale lifestyle and entertainment district, including experiential retail, residential space, hotels and other unique products, drawing visitors throughout the year and driving substantial fiscal impact for our region."
