In a recent development, Sean "Diddy" Combs has returned the Key to the City of New York, following a request from Mayor Eric Adams. This request was made after a video surfaced showing Diddy engaging in a physical altercation with his ex-girlfriend, Cassie, back in 2016.
The security footage, obtained by CNN, depicted Diddy attacking Cassie in a hotel hallway, confirming the incident she had previously detailed in a federal lawsuit filed in November. The video showed Diddy grabbing Cassie, throwing her to the ground, and even kicking and dragging her. This disturbing footage prompted Mayor Adams to write a letter expressing his deep concern over the assault and his solidarity with survivors of domestic and gender-based violence.
The letter, which was sent to Diddy's representatives, was received on June 4, with addresses in Los Angeles and New York City mentioned as the destinations. Six days later, the key to the city was returned.
Diddy's actions have not only led to the return of the key but have also sparked a series of civil lawsuits against him in recent months. At present, he is reportedly under investigation by federal authorities, according to sources from NBC News. These investigations come in the wake of five lawsuits filed in New York, accusing Diddy of sexual assault, sexual trafficking, and other criminal activities. In response, Diddy has vehemently denied all of these allegations, deeming them sickening.
Cassie, in her lawsuit, made several serious allegations against Diddy, including rape and physical abuse throughout their relationship, such as punching, beating, kicking, and stomping. The lawsuit was settled on the day it was filed, despite Diddy's initial denial of the allegations through his lawyer.
Further complicating matters, in March, federal agents carried out searches on Diddy's properties, leading to the discovery of firearms. Additionally, his phones were seized at an airport, following a warrant issued by the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of New York.
As the legal battles and federal investigation continue, the return of the Key to the City signifies a significant setback for Diddy. The incident serves as a reminder of the ongoing efforts to address and support survivors of domestic and gender-based violence.
It remains to be seen how these legal matters will unfold for Diddy, as authorities continue to investigate the allegations and ascertain the truth behind the disturbing assault footage.
