In a joint statement, Secretary of Homeland Security Alejandro N. Mayorkas, Senior Official Performing the Duties of the Deputy Secretary Kristie Canegallo, and other leaders in law enforcement within the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) expressed their unwavering support for the presence and contributions of women in the field.

The statement comes in response to recent public comments that have questioned the role of women in law enforcement, particularly within the United States Secret Service, following the attempted assassination of former President Trump.

The DHS leadership emphasized that women in law enforcement play pivotal roles in ensuring the safety and security of communities across the country. They stated that these individuals are highly trained and skilled professionals who demonstrate bravery and selflessness in their commitment to protecting others.

Highlighting the importance of diversity within the DHS, Secretary Mayorkas commended the contributions made by women in federal, state, local, tribal, territorial, and campus law enforcement agencies. He emphasized that their presence strengthens the department's ability to fulfill its mission effectively and enhance national security.

The DHS, as the largest law enforcement organization in the federal government, pledged its unwavering support to recruit, retain, and elevate women in law enforcement ranks. The leaders emphasized their commitment to providing opportunities for women to excel within the department and contribute to a safer and more secure nation.

The officials named in the statement included Troy Miller, Senior Official Performing the Duties of the Commissioner for U.S. Customs and Border Protection; Patrick J. Lechleitner, Senior Official Performing the Duties of the Director for U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement; Admiral Linda Fagan, Commandant of the U.S. Coast Guard; David Pekoske, Administrator of the Transportation Security Administration; Kimberly Cheatle, Director of the U.S. Secret Service; Deanne Criswell, Administrator of the Federal Emergency Management Agency; Richard K. Cline, Director of the Federal Protective Service; Benjamine C. Huffman, Director of the Federal Law Enforcement Training Centers; and Richard McComb, Chief Security Officer of the Department of Homeland Security.

This statement serves as a powerful affirmation of the department's commitment to diversity and equality within law enforcement. It also sends a clear message that women in law enforcement deserve the utmost respect, gratitude, and support for their invaluable service.

The DHS leadership concluded by asserting that by recognizing and elevating the presence of women in law enforcement, the department will not only be better for it but will also contribute to a more secure and inclusive nation.

As the nation navigates a complex and evolving security landscape, the statement brings much-needed reassurance that the contributions of women in law enforcement will continue to be valued and appreciated by the Department of Homeland Security and the country as a whole.
