In a surprising move, thirteen House Democrats have aligned with Republicans to denounce President Biden's immigration policies and demand stronger border security measures. The group of Democrats, including Representatives Marie Gluesenkamp Perez, Eric Sorensen, Angie Craig, Jared Golden, and others, expressed their concerns about the ongoing border crisis and called for immediate action.

One of the Democrats supporting the resolution, Rep. Marie Gluesenkamp Perez from Washington, criticized President Biden for failing to end the crisis at the southern border. She emphasized the need to secure the border and stop the violent drug cartels from flooding the country with dangerous substances like fentanyl. Gluesenkamp Perez even suggested reinstating the "Remain in Mexico" policy that requires asylum-seekers to wait in Mexico until their applications are approved.

Another Democrat, Rep. Eric Sorensen from Illinois, echoed the importance of border security, stating that it is a priority for him and his constituents. He visited the southern border to witness firsthand the challenges that need to be addressed to fix the broken immigration system.

Rep. Angie Craig from Minnesota called for an end to the political wedge that surrounds the border issue. She agreed with Republicans that there is a national security concern at the border but urged both parties to work together and find common ground. Craig advocated for the House of Representatives to review the Bipartisan Border Agreement proposed by the Senate earlier this year.

Rep. Jared Golden from Maine voiced his concerns about the influx of deadly fentanyl crossing the southern border and reaching his district. He emphasized that border security is essential for national security and called on Congress and the Biden administration to take meaningful actions to address the crisis.

This bipartisan effort by a group of Democrats demonstrates their shared belief that border security is a critical issue and must be prioritized. These members of Congress are urging their colleagues to put aside politics and act swiftly to protect American communities from the illicit flow of dangerous drugs.

The Biden administration, for its part, maintains that it is grappling with a hemisphere-wide crisis that requires additional funding and comprehensive reforms by Congress. It has rejected claims of implementing "open border" policies and instead points to the over 500,000 removals or returns since last May. President Biden has urged Republicans to pass a bipartisan Senate package that combines funding with mechanisms to limit entries when a specified threshold is reached. However, conservatives argue that this package is insufficient and advocate for the passage of a House GOP bill that was approved last year.

As the debate on border security continues, the House Democrats' unexpected alliance with Republicans represents a significant step towards finding common ground on this pressing issue. The resolution they have endorsed highlights the urgency of the situation and calls for bipartisan cooperation to protect national security and address the broken immigration system.
