Democratic strategist James Carville has called on Vice President Kamala Harris to accept an invitation from Fox News to debate former President Donald Trump next month. Carville made the suggestion during an episode of "Politicon" on Saturday, expressing his belief that Trump is "scared to debate a girl." He proposed that the debate take place on September 18th in New York City, coinciding with the former president's sentencing in the Manhattan hush money case.
In his statement, Carville emphasized the importance of accepting the Fox News debate invitation and treating former President Trump with respect. He urged the Vice President's campaign team to consider the idea, suggesting that a debate on the night of September 18th in New York City would be an ideal setting.
The remarks from Carville were first highlighted by Mediate, garnering attention from political observers. Meanwhile, former President Trump responded to the debate discussion in a post on his social media platform, Truth Social. He announced that he had accepted a September 4th Fox News debate with Vice President Harris, stating that he would no longer participate in the previously agreed-upon September 10th ABC News debate against President Joe Biden.
However, Michael Tyler, the communications director of the Harris campaign, voiced concerns and called on Trump to honor the September 10th debate commitment. In a statement, Tyler accused the former president of seeking to "bail him out" through Fox News and urged Trump to show up for the scheduled debate in order to address a national audience during prime time.
Tyler further added that the campaign is open to discussing additional debates after the September 10th one, to which both campaigns have already agreed. He challenged Trump's willingness to participate, insinuating that the former president may be too scared to face Vice President Harris on the designated date.
As the discussion surrounding potential debates continues, it remains to be seen whether Vice President Harris will accept the Fox News invitation to face off against former President Trump. The political world eagerly awaits a final decision, recognizing the significance of such a high-profile debate on the national stage.
