In a tragic incident at an East Hollywood Metro station, a contracted security guard shot and killed a trespasser after being stabbed on Tuesday morning, as reported by authorities. The incident occurred at the intersection of Vermont Avenue and Sunset Boulevard, prompting an immediate response from the Los Angeles Fire Department.

According to the Los Angeles County Metropolitan Transportation Authority, the confrontation began when a trespasser was encountered during a routine security sweep of a non-public area of the station. As security guards attempted to control the situation, they initially used pepper spray. However, the suspect retaliated by stabbing one of the guards in the leg, prompting the injured guard to open fire in self-defense.

The wounded security guard was swiftly transported to a nearby hospital where they are currently in stable condition, according to the agency. Unfortunately, the stabbing suspect was declared dead at the scene and remains unidentified at this time.

Video footage captured by AIR7 HD showcased a canopy set up on a sidewalk near the intersection where the incident occurred, painting a somber scene of the aftermath. This alarming incident is the latest in a series of violent episodes that have plagued Metro buses and trains in recent weeks, leading to growing concerns about public safety.

In response to these escalating incidents, the Los Angeles County Metropolitan Transportation Authority's board of directors declared a public safety emergency on April 26. The aim is to address the rising number of attacks on bus drivers and the tragic fatal stabbing of a 66-year-old woman on a Metro train.

Authorities will continue to investigate the events leading up to the deadly confrontation at the East Hollywood Metro station. The need for heightened security measures remains a top priority as efforts are made to ensure the safety and well-being of commuters using public transportation in Los Angeles County.
