In a surprising move, House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-LA) has appointed two controversial House GOP members to the highly sensitive House Intelligence Committee. According to Punchbowl's Jake Sherman, Reps. Scott Perry (R-Pa.) and Ronny Jackson (R-Texas) have been named to the committee, which oversees the entire intelligence community and deals with classified information.

Both Perry and Jackson have garnered negative attention in recent years, raising eyebrows over their suitability for such a crucial committee. Ronny Jackson, who previously served as President Trump's physician, faced allegations of misconduct during his time in the White House. A Pentagon investigation found that Jackson had made sexual comments, drank alcohol, and took Ambien while on duty. As a consequence, Jackson was demoted from retired admiral to retired captain by the Navy.

Similarly, Scott Perry has been involved in his own controversial actions. He allegedly coordinated with Trump allies during the January 6th attack on the U.S. Capitol, which resulted in a federal judge ordering that texts and emails from his phone be turned over to prosecutors for investigation as part of an electoral probe.

The decision by House Speaker Johnson to appoint Perry and Jackson to the House Intelligence Committee has drawn sharp criticism from commentators and journalists. Many express surprise and scorn over the inclusion of these controversial figures in a committee responsible for handling sensitive intelligence information about the United States and its allies.

The House Intelligence Committee plays a crucial role in overseeing the intelligence community's operations and has access to the most classified intelligence. Given the past scandals involving Perry and Jackson, their appointment to this committee raises concerns about their ability to handle such sensitive information objectively and responsibly.

As the controversy surrounding this decision continues to unfold, it remains to be seen how Perry and Jackson will approach their new roles on the House Intelligence Committee and whether their past actions will impact their effectiveness within the committee's important responsibilities.
