A major conservative thinktank, the Heritage Foundation, has raised concerns about the integrity of the upcoming 2024 election, with a top official stating that there was a "0% chance of a free and fair election." The thinktank's executive director, Mike Howell, shared the results of a hypothetical exercise that outlined various implausible scenarios that could unfold after the election.
During the event in Washington, some of the outlandish scenarios presented included the kidnapping of Barbara Streisand by Hamas, antifa-BLM protesters taking over a detention facility, and the FBI arresting Donald Trump after winning the election. The exercise aimed to sow doubts regarding the threats to the 2024 election posed by Trump, who has consistently refused to commit to accepting election results and attempted to overturn the 2020 vote.
The Heritage Foundation, known for its extreme Project 2025, sought to suggest that it could be President Joe Biden who might attempt to overturn the election results. The thinktank claimed that Biden's administration's alleged lawlessness at the border, staffing considerations, and defiance of court rulings indicate a potential intent to circumvent constitutional limits and disregard the will of the voters.
Karine Jean-Pierre, the White House press secretary, affirmed Biden's commitment to accept the election results and stated that there is no place for putting oneself above the whole country.
Howell's remarks are notable as Republican officials across several states are increasingly pressuring the certification process, which experts warn could be part of an attempt to overturn election results in the future. Instances of this include Republican commissioners in Nevada's Washoe county refusing to certify a primary without evidence of wrongdoing and Georgia Republicans seeking to grant county election board members more discretion to delay certification.
The Heritage Foundation's report outlines four main "threats" to the 2024 election. These include potential civil and voting rights violations that could interfere with result certification, law enforcement officials arresting opponents of the regime (with Trump having previously pledged to prosecute his enemies), organized violence to intimidate state and local election officials, and media suppression of information.
The thinktank's latest report has raised eyebrows as the Heritage Foundation already faced scrutiny for its Project 2025, a comprehensive blueprint detailing radical plans to reshape the US government in the event of Trump's victory.
James Singer, a spokesman for the Biden campaign, has accused the Heritage Foundation of supporting attempts to steal the election. He described the report as an effort to suppress the vote, undermine the election, and potentially incite another January 6-like incident.
As the 2024 election approaches, the debates surrounding election integrity and potential efforts to challenge the results continue to intensify, fueling concerns about the future of American democracy.
