**Rep. Seth Moulton Defends Controversial Remarks on Transgender Athletes Amid Backlash**

In the aftermath of the presidential election, Congressman Seth Moulton has been defending his contentious statements about transgender athletes. His comments have sparked significant discussion, especially since President-elect Donald Trump's campaign invested millions in anti-trans advertisements during the fall campaign period.

In an interview with The New York Times following Trump's victory, Moulton criticized the Democratic Party's approach to gender issues, suggesting that they focus too much on not causing offense. He highlighted his concerns as a parent, stating, "I have two little girls, I don't want them getting run over on a playing field by a male or formerly male athlete, but as a Democrat I'm supposed to be afraid to say that."

The aftermath of his comments saw a top aide resigning, as reported by The Boston Globe, with protesters gathering outside his Salem office. Despite the backlash, Moulton held firm during a Sunday appearance on CNN. He emphasized that he was expressing his genuine concerns as a parent, reflecting what he perceives as a disconnect between Democratic leaders and many Americans. Moulton noted that while his wording might not have been perfect, the core of his message still stands.

Moulton claims that the majority of feedback he has received has been "incredibly supportive." He mentioned that many fellow Democrats and colleagues in Congress have privately agreed with him, suggesting that the party often avoids meaningful debates on important issues.

However, his comments were met with criticism from LGBTQ+ advocacy group MassEquality. The group's Executive Director Tanya Neslusan labeled Moulton's remarks as both harmful and inaccurate, stressing that they perpetuate damaging stereotypes about transgender athletes. Neslusan expressed hope for a constructive dialogue with Moulton to foster a more informed understanding of transgender issues in sports.

Massachusetts Congresswoman Ayanna Pressley also responded, albeit indirectly, through social media. Without naming Moulton, Pressley voiced her support for the transgender community, condemning their scapegoating and dehumanization. She affirmed her solidarity, stating, "This Congresswoman sees you and loves you."

The ongoing discussion around Moulton’s remarks underscores a broader debate within the Democratic Party about its approach to social issues and the balance between inclusion and open discourse.
