**Congressional Resolution Targets Biden Over Comments on Trump Supporters**
President Biden faces backlash in Congress after making controversial remarks about former President Donald Trump’s supporters. Republican Representative John Rose of Tennessee plans to introduce a resolution condemning Biden’s comments, which Rose described as referring to Trump supporters as "garbage." Rose compared Biden's statement to Hillary Clinton’s infamous 2016 description of Trump supporters as a "basket of deplorables."
"First, Democrats called half the country deplorables. Now, they are doubling down, calling us garbage. Democrats' disrespect for half the country's views and opinions is exactly what is wrong with the leadership of extreme far-left liberals," Rose told Fox News Digital.
The White House, however, has refuted the claims, denying that President Biden referred to Trump supporters as "garbage." This controversy arose following Biden's response to a question about a Trump rally at Madison Square Garden, which included contentious comments about Puerto Rico by comedian Tony Hinchcliffe.
During a virtual call with Voto Latino, Biden remarked, "Donald Trump has no character. He doesn't give a damn about the Latino community. He's a failed businessman. He only cares about the billionaire friends that he has and accumulating wealth for those at the top. And just the other day, a speaker at his rally called Puerto Rico a 'floating island of garbage.' The only garbage I see floating out there is his supporters - his demonization of Latinos is unconscionable, and it's un-American.”
While Biden clarified on social media, stating his initial remarks were only meant to criticize Trump’s rhetoric about Latinos, the explanation has done little to quell Republican ire. The controversy continues to simmer as Election Day approaches, with Republicans seizing the opportunity to attack not just Biden but also the 2024 Democratic nominee, Vice President Kamala Harris.
Harris, distancing herself from Biden's comments, stated, "I strongly disagree with any criticism of people based on who they vote for." Michigan Representative Elissa Slotkin echoed this sentiment, labeling Biden's comments as "inappropriate."
Fox News Digital reached out to the White House for a comment on Rose’s planned resolution, marking another chapter in the ongoing political debate over Biden’s contentious statements.
