With only a week left before the impending shutdown at 12:01 a.m. on Oct. 1, Congress is under pressure to pass a funding bill to keep the government operational. Senator Johnson emphasized the need for a "very narrow, bare-bones CR" containing essential extensions in a letter to fellow lawmakers. Speaker Graham warned about the adverse political ramifications of a government shutdown so close to a crucial election. Shutting down the government less than 40 days before the election would be an act of "political malpractice," according to Graham.

The Speaker also expressed concern over recent allegations against Robinson, citing a CNN report that accused Robinson of making disturbing posts on a porn site. The report alleged that Robinson identified as a "black NAZI" and advocated for the reinstatement of slavery. Despite denying the accusations and labeling the report as "tabloid trash," Robinson remains determined to stay in the race. Senator Graham condemned the allegations, stating that if proven true, Robinson would be deemed unfit for office. However, if the allegations are false, Graham noted that Robinson would have strong grounds for a libel lawsuit.

The race against time to avert a shutdown remains intense, with critical decisions expected in the days leading up to the deadline. Political tensions are high as lawmakers grapple with the implications of a potential government shutdown. As the clock ticks towards midnight on Oct. 1, all eyes are on Congress to swiftly pass a funding bill and prevent a disruption in government operations.
