In a heated GOP debate, Colorado Republican Congresswoman Lauren Boebert found herself at the center of controversy as she confronted questions about a scandalous night at the theater last fall. Boebert, who has been embroiled in a series of controversial incidents, is seeking to retain her seat in Congress by switching districts.

During the televised debate in Denver on Friday, Boebert appeared alongside six other GOP candidates as moderator Kyle Clark raised the issue of the infamous theater incident. Last September, Boebert was ejected from a Denver theater during a performance of the musical Beetlejuice after engaging in disruptive behavior, including vaping, singing, taking flash photos, and allegedly groping her date.

Initially, Boebert denied the incident, but when video surveillance footage was released, she was forced to acknowledge the truth. When asked about the theater incident during the debate, Boebert stated that she has "owned up to my night out in Denver." However, the moderator pressed further, questioning whether Boebert had apologized for her behavior towards her date and for lying to voters, as well as showing disrespect to service workers.

Growing visibly irritated, Boebert denied any disrespect and suggested that the incident had been taken out of context. She also accused Clark of releasing the footage, describing it as a violation of her privacy.

The theater incident is not the only challenge Boebert is facing. Last month, she was confronted by protesters chanting "Beetlejuice" during her visit to George Washington University's campus amidst pro-Gaza demonstrations. Additionally, a recent poll revealed that in her new district, Boebert trails behind Democratic candidate Ian McCorkle by 14 percentage points.

Boebert's decision to switch districts came after a narrow victory over her Democratic rival in the 2022 election. However, a subsequent straw poll with eight competitors found her finishing in fifth place.

The Independent has reached out to Boebert's office for comment on the recent debate. This latest controversy surrounding the congresswoman adds another layer of uncertainty to her bid for re-election, signaling potential challenges ahead for her political future.
