In a recent incident, CNN took a swift decision to remove Donald Trump's campaign national press secretary, Karoline Leavitt, from an interview after she repeatedly criticized the network's debate moderators. Leavitt refused to heed warnings from CNN This Morning anchor, Kasie Hunt, who cautioned her against taking shots at Jake Tapper and Dana Bash, the moderators set to oversee the first presidential debate.

During the interview, Hunt initially asked about Trump's approach in the upcoming debate and how it would differ from his tactics in the previous election. Leavitt highlighted Trump's preparedness and compared it to Joe Biden, suggesting that Trump doesn't rely on advisers to formulate his responses. She emphasized that Trump aims to convey a vision of strengthening the nation and reclaiming its economic prosperity. Leavitt also criticized the biased coverage of Trump by the CNN moderators.

However, Hunt swiftly came to the defense of her colleagues, asserting that Tapper and Bash have shown professionalism throughout their careers, covering campaigns and interviewing candidates from all political sides. Hunt advised Leavitt that past debates have shown attacking the moderators can have negative consequences for the attacking party.

Attempting to redirect the discussion back to the debate, Hunt played some comments made by Trump and asked for Leavitt's expectations regarding Biden. In response, Leavitt began referencing past criticisms of Tapper made by Trump. Hunt intervened, reminding Leavitt that attacking her colleagues would not be tolerated and could lead to the interview being terminated.

As Leavitt persisted with her criticisms, Hunt made the decision to end the interview. With a wave of her hand, she thanked Leavitt for her time and allowed her the possibility of returning in the future to speak about Trump. In a subsequent post, Hunt conveyed the importance of respecting her colleagues, regardless of political affiliation.

The incident highlights the tension between the Trump campaign and CNN, as disagreements over the debate moderators' impartiality have been brewing. CNN's action indicates its commitment to ensuring a fair interview process while maintaining a respectful environment for its journalists.

The first presidential debate, scheduled for Thursday, will now proceed as planned with Tapper and Bash as the moderators. It remains to be seen whether this episode will have any impact on the candidates' performance or the overall dynamics of the debate.
