In a recent interview on CNN, former President Donald Trump's campaign spokesperson, Karoline Leavitt, had her mic cut off after bringing up comparisons made by one of CNN's anchors and debate moderators between Trump and Adolf Hitler. CNN anchor Kasie Hunt abruptly ended the interview when Leavitt mentioned comments made by Jake Tapper, who is slated to host Thursday's presidential debate.
Leavitt pointed out that it would be easy to find several instances of Tapper likening President Trump to Hitler by simply searching 'Jake Tapper Donald Trump' on Google. She argued that she was merely repeating Tapper's own remarks, but Hunt warned Leavitt twice that she would end the interview if the discussion continued. Hunt emphasized that she wanted to focus on Joe Biden and Donald Trump instead, and if Leavitt wanted to speak on behalf of Trump, they could continue the conversation.
CNN ultimately terminated the interview after Leavitt persisted with her argument. With thanks for her time, Hunt extended an invitation for Leavitt to come back and discuss Donald Trump while assuring equal time for him and Biden during the upcoming presidential debate in Atlanta.
After the interview, Hunt expressed her frustration on social media, stating that Leavitt had disrespected Tapper. She emphasized the importance of respecting her colleagues, regardless of political alignment.
Leavitt responded by suggesting that CNN's decision to cut off her microphone validated their concerns about Trump receiving unfair treatment during the debate. She claimed that the interview demonstrated CNN's biased approach, but reiterated Trump's determination to convey his winning message to the American people in the face of a "3-1 fight."
The exchange brought attention to a prior statement by Tapper, where he compared Trump's remark about immigrants 'poisoning' the U.S. to Hitler's rhetoric. Tapper drew parallels to Hitler's writings in Mein Kampf, where he described the mixing of non-Germans with Germans as a form of poisoning.
The controversy surrounding the interview has sparked debate and highlighted the ongoing tensions between the Trump camp and CNN leading up to the highly anticipated presidential debate.
