In a shocking turn of events, Emory University lecturer Caroline Fohlin found herself forcefully taken to the ground by police during her arrest at a Gaza solidarity protest on campus. The incident occurred as law enforcement attempted to disperse a pro Palestine encampment at the Georgia college on Thursday, resorting to the use of tear gas and rubber bullets. Fohlin, along with several other faculty members, was subsequently booked into DeKalb County jail on charges of disorderly conduct and battery of a police officer.

Video footage captured the intense moment when Fohlin was wrestled to the concrete by a police officer while trying to intervene during the arrest of another demonstrator. The professor initially refused to comply with the officer's order to get on the ground, leading to a physical confrontation. With her arms gripped tightly by the officer, Fohlin can be heard pleading for him to stop before breaking free and retreating with her hands raised. However, the officer lunged at her once again, forcibly pushing her to the ground.

As Fohlin fell, her glasses went flying, and the officer continued to press her into the ground. Calling for backup, another officer rushed over and joined in forcing her downward. During the chaotic ordeal, Fohlin exclaimed, "I just hit my head on the concrete!" while officers eventually handcuffed her. In a desperate appeal, she declared, "I'm a professor!" as onlookers hurled insults at the police, labeling them as "fascists," "Hitler," and "rabid dogs."

The distressing arrest of Fohlin took place amid clashes between Atlanta Police officers, Georgia State Troopers, and demonstrators at the Georgia University. These scenes mirrored similar incidents across various college campuses in the country, as pro Palestine students demand divestment from companies with ties to Israel.

Additionally, at George Washington University, a pro Palestine protestor sparked outrage by carrying a sign referencing 'the final solution,' a term associated with Hitler's plan to exterminate the Jews. This act generated widespread condemnation among the hundreds of individuals occupying the university's campus.

The unrest and tensions on American college campuses continue to escalate, with encampments sprouting up nationwide as pro Palestine students intensify their calls for universities to sever connections with Israeli-linked companies. In response, Emory University declared that any remaining protesters or those attempting to join will be considered trespassers, while Northwestern University resorted to turning on sprinklers overnight in an attempt to disperse students.

In New York, the demonstration at Columbia University, which led to subsequent clashes with law enforcement and the arrest of over 100 activists, entered its second week. Consequently, the university was compelled to cancel in-person classes until the semester's end next week. Similar disruptions were witnessed at New York University, Yale University, and Harvard University, as these prestigious institutions grappled with defusing tensions on their respective campuses.

As the pro Palestine movement gains momentum across universities, it remains to be seen how these protests and actions will impact the ongoing Israeli-Palestinian conflict and the broader conversation surrounding divestment.
