In a shocking turn of events, chaos unfolded at the Copa America Final held at the Hard Rock Stadium on Sunday, resulting in calls for answers from county officials and disgruntled fans. Among them is Jackie Martinez, who, along with thousands of others, was denied entry to the highly-anticipated event.

Martinez had spent over $4,000 on tickets for herself, her husband, and her parents, hoping for a once-in-a-lifetime experience. However, their dreams quickly turned into a nightmare when they were unable to make it inside the stadium. Thousands of people without tickets stormed the gates, with some even resorting to climbing through air conditioning vents. Police arrested over two dozen individuals in the midst of the chaos.

As a response to the unfortunate incident, Martinez has filed a lawsuit against Hard Rock Stadium and CONMEBOL, the South American football governing body, seeking $50,000 in damages. The lawsuit claims that the stadium's failure to implement adequate crowd control measures, security protocols, and ticket verification processes contributed to the unlawful entry of individuals. Martinez's representative, Irwin Ast, referred to the incident as "pure negligence," emphasizing the devastation experienced by Martinez and her family.

Despite attempts to gather statements, NBC6 was unable to obtain comments from Hard Rock Stadium or CONMEBOL regarding the lawsuit as of Tuesday night. However, Hard Rock Stadium previously stated their commitment to addressing individual concerns in collaboration with CONMEBOL. It is worth noting that Ticketmaster policy states that only event organizers can determine whether refunds will be granted.

The incident has sparked concerns among county officials, with Miami-Dade County Commissioner JC Bermudez expressing the need for a meeting to delve into the security failure at the stadium. Bermudez acknowledged the lack of preparedness and sought answers regarding the circumstances that led to the breach.

On Tuesday, Hard Rock Stadium released another statement, asserting their collaboration with CONMEBOL, CONCACAF, and local law enforcement authorities to ensure security during the tournament. The statement was in response to CONMEBOL's earlier message, which highlighted that decisions surrounding security operations were ultimately within the domain of the Hard Rock Stadium authorities.

In light of the unfortunate turn of events, Ast emphasized the need for Hard Rock Stadium and CONMEBOL to rectify the situation, citing potential violations of the Florida Deceptive and Unfair Trade Practices Act. He emphasized that tickets were purchased years in advance and that the incident had been a significant hardship for the affected individuals.

Refunds for Copa America Final tickets remain uncertain. StubHub stated that they would follow the approach of event producers and primary ticket providers, but are awaiting further information. Customers who contacted them will be notified once more details emerge.

The aftermath of the chaos at the Copa America Final continues to unravel, leaving fans and officials seeking accountability while eagerly awaiting resolution on the matter.
