**Celebrities Urge Trump Administration to Maintain Funding for LGBTQ+ Youth Crisis Services**
In a powerful public appeal, over 100 well-known celebrities have come together to implore the Trump Administration and Congress to preserve the funding for the 988 Suicide & Crisis Lifeline’s LGBTQ+ Youth Specialized Services. This plea comes amid concerns after a leaked budget draft revealed plans to eliminate funding for the federal program, which provides critical support to LGBTQ+ youth facing suicidal crises.
The budget cuts, poised to take effect on October 1, have prompted The Trevor Project to issue an urgent letter to lawmakers, calling for the funding to be saved in the Fiscal Year 2026 budget. Among the signatories are prominent figures such as Ariana Grande, Pedro Pascal, Daniel Radcliffe, Gabrielle Union-Wade, Dwyane Wade, Jamie Lee Curtis, Dua Lipa, Sabrina Carpenter, Cara Delevingne, Christina Aguilera, and many more.
Highlighting the gravity of the issue, The Trevor Project's letter emphasizes the life-and-death stakes involved: "This is about people, not politics. At a time of deep division, let this be something we as people can all agree on: no young person should be left without help in their darkest moment. Stripping away this lifeline leaves LGBTQ+ youth with the message that their lives are not worth saving. We refuse to accept that message."
Statistics from The Trevor Project underscore the significance of the crisis services, revealing that more than 1.8 million LGBTQ+ youth in the U.S. seriously consider suicide each year, with at least one attempting suicide every 45 seconds. The specialized services, funded through the Department of Health and Human Services, have reached over 1.2 million people, while the 988 Lifeline has served more than 14 million.
The urgency of maintaining these services was further highlighted by a notable surge in demand following key political events. On the day of Trump’s inauguration, The Trevor Project’s crisis services experienced a 33 percent increase in calls and messages, with volume spiking 46 percent the following day. A record-breaking 700 percent increase was observed on November 6, the day after the presidential election.
The letter closes with a heartfelt message to LGBTQ+ youth: "To every LGBTQ+ young person reading this: you are not alone. We see you. We value you. You have the right to feel safe, supported, and loved exactly as you are. You deserve access to life-saving services that honor your humanity. You may be hurting. You may be scared. You may feel like no one hears you—but we do. We will keep showing up and speaking out. We will not stop fighting for you."
The Trevor Project, along with its celebrity supporters, continues to advocate tirelessly to ensure that these essential services remain accessible to those in need.
