### CBS Opts Out of Broadcast for 2024 Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade
In a surprising turn, CBS has decided not to air the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade in 2024, deviating from its tradition of showcasing pre-recorded Broadway performances. Parade enthusiasts will notice the absence of CBS coverage, although NBC remains the official broadcaster of the celebrated event.
Historically, CBS had enriched the parade broadcast with performances from Broadway hits like "A Beautiful Noise," "Aladdin," "Chicago," "Moulin Rouge," and "Six." These segments offered viewers a taste of Broadway's magic, supplementing the live coverage offered by NBC. However, next year, audiences will need to tune into NBC exclusively for their parade coverage, as no official explanation has been provided for CBS's withdrawal.
The Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade, a hallmark of the holiday season for nearly a century, will mark its 98th occurrence this year. NBC's broadcast will feature performances from "Death Becomes Her," "Hell's Kitchen," and "The Outsiders," along with a performance by the iconic Radio City Rockettes. The parade, which began in 1924, has only been canceled during the years 1942, 1943, and 1944.
Drawing in approximately 3.5 million spectators on the streets of New York City and captivating over 50 million viewers nationwide, the parade is an integral Thanksgiving tradition. The event is set to start its procession on November 28, 2024, at 8:30 am and will continue until noon across all time zones on NBC and Peacock. Additionally, NBC plans to air an encore telecast at 2:00 pm.
For many American families, the parade remains as symbolic of Thanksgiving as the meal itself, underscoring the festive beginning of the holiday season.
