The lawsuit, lodged in a Texas state court, claims that SpaceX employees trespassed and caused damage to land owned by Cards Against Humanity near the U.S.-Mexico border. This piece of land was acquired by Cards Against Humanity in 2017 through over $2 million in donations to thwart former President Donald Trump's plans to build a border wall.
According to the lawsuit, SpaceX contractors have reportedly removed vegetation and spread gravel over the soil to create space for parking and working on SpaceX vehicles. Cards Against Humanity alleged that Musk and his company have been using the property as their own for at least six months without regard for the company's property rights or safety regulations, potentially violating Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) requirements.
Cards Against Humanity's lawsuit indicates that if successful, the company plans to share the net proceeds with the 150,000 individuals who donated towards the land purchase. The company expressed disappointment at the damage caused to the once-pristine land, describing Musk's actions as disrespectful and harmful. To provide more information on the lawsuit, Cards Against Humanity has launched a website called ElonOwesYou100Dollars.com, where they have posted images of the land from 2017 and the current state of the property.
While Musk and SpaceX have yet to respond to the lawsuit, this legal battle highlights the clash between private property ownership and corporate interests. As the case unfolds in court, many are watching closely to see how the issue of land rights and environmental protection will be addressed.
